In the sunny daylight, King Meta peered down on the tiers of towers spilling down from the royal high tower, the gentile levels with the rooftop gardens around them, then below that all the intellectual workers, and below those in the shadows of the towers were hundreds of levels of middle classes, bridges between their buildings, all connected with the thirty-story base of the lower classes. The city ended at the exurban ring, the no-man’s land that marked the edge of the king’s domain beyond which were lands and waters ruled by the warlords of the nine dominions.
The masses taking to the streets chanted so loud and in such great numbers it became a roar. Hundreds of stories above, King Meta trembled.

Drinking whiskey is like scratching an itch. As long as the itch lasts, the scratch sure feels good. You could rub yourself raw and smile all the while. When you see what you did in the morning you tell yourself it’ll heal, probably won’t even leave a mark. In the meantime, a couple scratches to ease the healing process couldn’t hurt.
